Baby teeth, also known as primary teeth, play a crucial role in a child’s overall dental health and development. Supervision and assistance from parents are necessary until children develop the dexterity to brush effectively on their own, usually around age six to eight.

Flossing between teeth also needs to be introduced as soon as two teeth touch. Flossing helps clear out food particles and harmful plaque from between the teeth and under the gumline, areas that a toothbrush simply cannot reach. These visits allow dentists to monitor the development of the teeth, provide professional cleanings, and apply preventive treatments like fluoride and sealants.

Encouraging a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and dairy products can help maintain strong teeth. Limiting sugary snacks and drinks, which contribute to cavity formation, is also crucial. Offering water instead of sugary beverages and promoting healthy snack options can make a big difference.
